Tate McRae earns GOLD for ‘greedy’
The Canadian singer-songwriter Tate McRae has done it again. Her single ‘greedy‘ has been awarded GOLD, making it Tate’s fastest track to go gold.
‘Greedy’ was released on September 15, 2023 via RCA Records as the lead single from her second album “think later“, with the song going viral on TikTok and YouTube before its release. The single hit the charts immediately after its release and not only reached number 1 in the German airplay charts, but also in the global and German Spotify charts. In the past 12 months, ‘greedy’ has been streamed almost 65 million times in Germany.
In terms of content, the song is inspired by challenging experiences in nightlife. The artist releases fleeting club acquaintances that she confidently rejects. Dubbed a “female empowerment song” by Tate herself, it encourages millions of fans to stand up for their own independence and self-love.
The 20-year-old quickly proved herself to be one of the world’s most up-and-coming pop stars. Tate started her YouTube career at the age of 8, primarily with dance videos. At the age of 14, she released the single ‘one day‘, which achieved 40 million views and went gold in Canada. Her international breakthrough came in 2020 with the song ‘you broke me first‘, a story about heartbreak. Tate remained at the top of the Billboard charts for over six months, longer than any female artist before her.
